7 FUN + EASY ways to use Positive Affirmations with Kids

Isn't it great how GULLIBLE kids are? Especially when they're around the age of 2-6 - they'll believe anything you tell them!

If you tell them the Tooth Fairy exists - they'll believe it.
If you tell them cars can fly - they'll believe it.
If you tell them they are AMAZING and you love being their parent - they'll believe it!

Childhood is the best time to hear positive affirmations from parents and other adults - because kids have no trouble accepting them as truth.

IT'S EASIER TO PROGRAM THAN IT IS TO RE-PROGRAM

Many adults find it hard to believe positive things about themselves. Many of us have been taught that we're not good enough, not pretty enough, or smart enough. We may have learned these negative, limiting beliefs from our parents and other adults in our lives. Maybe from our peers at school. Maybe (definitely) from the media.

But little kids... they haven't encountered this stuff yet.

That's why I am SO PASSIONATE about getting positive affirmations into the hearts and minds of children all over the world. I want kids to know they are amazing and special and unique. Because they are. Every single baby born is equally special, valuable and worthy of love!

When we love ourselves, it's easier to love others, and that makes the world a kinder, healthier place!

WHY POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS?

Positive affirmations have SKYROCKETED my self love and confidence since I started using them in my early 30s. I used to believe I was ugly, I wasn't good enough to be a musician, and I wasn't a good mother. I had no idea how much negative thoughts like "You're ugly" and "you're not good enough" weighed me down. When I began using positive affirmations, I was able to rewrite the negative thoughts and turn them into positive beliefs.

It took time and consistency, but now, I truly believe that I am beautiful inside and out, I AM good enough to be a musician, and I AM a good mother (not perfect - but you don't have to be perfect to be a good parent!)

With these new positive beliefs, I've become so much happier, more peaceful, more confident, and more in love with life.

USING POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS WITH KIDS

"The way we talk to our children becomes their inner voice." - Peggy O'Mara

As a young mother, I wanted my kids to hear positive affirmations too. I wrote an A-Z list of positive words, phrases and affirmations to speak over my sons at night. Over time, the list of affirmations became a song called “You Are Amazing”, and I’ve been singing it non-stop since then! I can confidently say that it has helped my whole family on our self love journey. You can get the MP3 for free HERE.

SONG:

1) That's my #1 tip for using affirmations with your kids. Simply press play on "You Are Amazing" and let the positive affirmations sink in. For best results, sing along! Click here to listen to "You Are Amazing" on YouTube.

POSTER:

2) For a visual reminder, display a positive affirmation poster in your child's room (or on the fridge, in the bathroom, or anywhere they'll see it often!) Get this one (downloadable lyric poster for "You Are Amazing") here!

COLOURING PAGES:

3) If your child likes to colour, why not colour a positive page together? Check out these ones (and more!) in the Positive Affirmation Activity Book.

MIRROR WORK:

4) Write out different affirmations and stick them around your mirror. Speak them with your kids while looking into your eyes. This is a powerful exercise known as "mirror work". Learn more about mirror work in this article by Louise Hay.

AFFIRMATION CARDS:

5) Use affirmation cards (like the ones below from Joyful Hearts) and allow your child to pick a new one every day and read aloud. Or, stick one in your child's lunchbox.
