Positive affirmations have SKYROCKETED my self love and confidence since I started using them in my early 30s. So as a young mother, I wanted my kids to hear positive affirmations too. I wrote an A-Z list of positive words, phrases and affirmations to speak over my sons at night. Over time, the list of affirmations became a song called “You Are Amazing”, and I’ve been singing it non-stop since then! I can confidently say that it has helped my whole family on our self love journey.

KIDS BELIEVE WHAT YOU TELL THEM
Children, especially young children, are so gullible! When my boys were 3 and 5 years old, they believed anything. If I told them cars can fly, they’d believe it – and they’d want one! When you tell a child,
“You are amazing!”
“I believe in you!”
“You are capable of anything you want to do!”
They’ll believe it! Wouldn’t it be great to have that foundation of self-confidence right from the beginning of life?
WHY SING POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS?
How many songs do you know the words to? I'm guessing at least a few, if not TONS of songs - right?
Now, how many poems can you recite? My guess: you can sing way more songs than you can recite poems.
3 main reasons to sing positive affirmations with your kids:
1) Music has a mysterious, but MAGICAL way of helping us remember things. Silly example: when I was a kid I wanted to remember how to spell the word "triskaidekaphobia" (the fear of the number 13). I made up a song about how to spell it, and I sang it in my head RIGHT NOW as I typed out that word. I STILL remember that song, some 30 years later!
2) Song lyrics can stay with us our whole lives. I bet your grandparents still know the words to "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", even if they learned it as a youngster.
3) Song lyrics get stuck in our heads. Our "mind chatter" often runs on autopilot. And sometimes the mind chatter can be unkind. If you've ever thought to yourself "you're not good enough" or "I'm a horrible person", then you know what I'm talking about. BUT - when songs with positive lyrics play in our heads, we are diverting our mind chatter away from negative thoughts and focusing it on positive thoughts. THIS IS POWERFUL! The more our mind can spend in a loving, happy, empowered place - the more loved, happy, and confident we feel. It's as simple as that!
SOMETIMES WE FORGET
Instilling love and confidence into our children is EASY – we just need to remember to tell them (and show them) how wonderful they are, how proud we are of them, and how much we love them! But as a mom of 2 energetic boys, I often get caught up in the emotions and exhaustion of daily life, and I forget to say positive words and affirmations. That is precisely WHY I wrote the song: so if I failed to say ANY positive words to my kids during the day, I'd know that they would hear them before bed, when I'd sing it to them (or play the recording of it).
