The Cow Song by Lindsay Müller: Chord Sheet + Ukulele Tutorial

One of my dreams is to own a pet cow. Even though I grew up on a farm (with cows!) in Ontario, Canada, I never fully appreciated them until recently. Believe it or not, this dream was born because of social media. Here's the story:

A few years ago I decided to try veganism (when you don't eat any animal products). This led me to discover social media accounts from animal sanctuaries and farms where cows were treated just like pet dogs or cats.

In the videos I watched, cows got love, snuggles, and attention. They had freedom and other cows and animals to socialize with.

I was surprised to see, through my phone screen, that cows are capable of so much love. They're the same as dogs, cats, horses - if you treat them well, you can develop a beautiful relationship with them.

(and I believe that goes for ALL animals)

One particular video moo-ved me deeply. 🐂

The video was of a woman in her late 40s. She was sitting in a farm stall with a cow lying down next to her. The woman sang a beautiful song, and the cow SANG WITH HER! Well, the cow was making a noise in between a moo and a hum - but you could just tell the cow was enjoying the moment thoroughly. (That video was the inspiration behind the line “Did you know that cows can sing? It's the most beautiful thing!”)

Watch and listen for yourself:

How moo-tiful is that?!

I don't live on a farm anymore, but I do live in a city that has rural pockets everywhere. It's normal to pass a field of cows while driving around town. When my sons were younger, we lived right next to a cow pasture. Most days I'd go say hello to the cows and give them some food scraps. Sometimes we'd play together by running up and down the street, and they would chase us on their side of the fence.

One day as my sons and I walked around our neighbourhood, I started making up a song about how I wanted a cow. And that's the song you're learning today: The Cow Song. I included as many puns as I can, and I hope they make you smile! Listen below:

Fun fact: my Mother, Susan Hay, painted the cover art!
